Twill is a twill fabric, which is different from other fabrics in many aspects. The following is a detailed introduction for you:
Differences from plain fabrics
- Weaving method: Plain fabric is the simplest fabric structure, with warp and weft yarns interlaced alternately up and down; while the warp and weft yarns of twill fabric are interlaced less times than plain weave, forming a unique diagonal texture.
- Appearance characteristics: The surface of plain fabric is flat, with fine and uniform texture; the surface of twill fabric is fuller and has obvious diagonal texture.
- Physical properties: Under the conditions of the same yarn density and thickness, plain fabric is stronger, while twill fabric has good wear resistance and better elasticity than plain fabric, and the shrinkage rate is better controlled and not easy to shrink. In addition, the fabric density of plain fabric is relatively small, while the gaps between the warp and weft yarns of twill fabric are small, and the yarns can be arranged closely, so the fabric density is larger, thicker, and the gloss is better.
Difference from TR fabric
- Material composition: twill is a fabric manufacturing method, and the raw materials can be various fibers such as cotton, wool, polyester, etc.; TR fabric is a polyester-viscose blended fabric, which is a blended yarn or fabric with polyester accounting for more than 60% and rayon.
- Appearance style: twill fabric presents different appearances according to different raw materials, such as cotton twill fabric is simple and natural, wool twill fabric is textured; TR fabric is smooth and bright, with a strong wool feel.
- Performance characteristics: twill fabric is relatively thick and wear-resistant; TR fabric is strong, wrinkle-resistant, dimensionally stable, has good moisture absorption, but poor iron-free.
Difference from cotton satin fabric (cotton satin)
- Weaving structure: twill fabric has oblique lines; the warp or weft yarns of cotton satin fabric form some separate, unconnected warp or weft points in the fabric, and the surface is smooth and shiny.
- Hand feel: twill fabrics are softer and more elastic; cotton satin fabrics are softer and smoother, with a strong luster.
- Durability: twill fabrics are relatively strong and are generally used for military clothing, denim, etc.; cotton satin fabrics are relatively delicate and less durable than twill fabrics.
