Polyester is also commonly used to make twill, but the process used to make this textile is very different from that used to make cotton yarn. The fabric is made from a compound called ethylene, which is present in crude oil. The compound then reacts with another chemical called dimethyl terephthalate, and the resulting monomeric alcohol bonds with terephthalic acid to make a polyester polymer.
The substance melts after creation, then forms long strips and cools. Then these ribbons are broken and they melt again. Finally, this refined polyester is extruded through a spinneret to make fabric fibers, which then undergo a series of treatments before being loaded onto spools.
Once textile fibers are required, they can be made into twill using a number of different methods. Technically, any type of fabric weave can be called a "twill weave" and there are many weave patterns that can be used to make this textile. Typically, twill weave is woven by threading the weft through one or more warp threads and then threading it through two or more warp threads. This technique produces a so-called "stepped" pattern, with diagonal lines appearing once the finished fabric is made.
