Twill is a textile fabric woven in a pattern of diagonal parallel ribs. It is one of the three main types of textile weave, satin and plain weave. The distinctive feature of twill weave is the twill rib. A twill weave has a unique, often darker front and lighter back. Twill fabric has a high thread count, which means the fabric is opaque, dense, and durable. Twill is rarely printed, although multiple colors of yarn can be used to achieve designs such as tweed and houndstooth. In regular twill weave, the diagonal lines repeat regularly, usually extending from left to right at a 45° angle.
FAQ
What is pointed twill?
A weave containing right- and left-hand twills where the two twills come together to form a point. Sometimes mistaken for a herringbone weave.
What is white twill?
White Twill Fabric has a smooth touch and solid, cream-white shade. This classic twill fabric is sturdy but lightweight, making it great for bags, home decor items, and more!
What is better twill or poplin?
Poplin vs Twill
Both weaves are soft and durable, but poplin is light, thin and smooth, whereas twill is thicker and heavier. They are strong materials, however poplin is often softer and more breathable. Poplin is generally better for the hotter months of the year, while twill will keep you warmer during winter.
What is the difference between twill and broadcloth?
Because of the diagonal texture twill is a bit softer than broadcloth and will drape more easily. Twill won’t give you the same “crisp” look that freshly pressed broadcloth can, but it’s relatively easy to iron and resistant to wrinkles.
