Herringbone pattern refers to a macroscopically visible pattern on the fracture of the rapidly tearing part when the metal component is broken. Usually, the radial pattern area, herringbone pattern area and shear lip area of the fiber are regarded as the three elements of the macroscopic morphology of the fracture. Herringbone is a rapid fracture immediately outside the radial pattern area. Usually the crack propagation speed in the herringbone fracture area can reach the speed of sound transmission. The herringbone pattern is opposite to the fracture source area, so the fracture source can be found by following the direction of the herringbone pattern on the fracture during failure analysis.
