Which material is best for coats?
wool and cashmere
When choosing coat fabrics, wool and cashmere are two very high-quality options.
The characteristics of wool are that the fiber is slightly thicker, solid, hard to the touch, and has an average luster, but the finished product is quite wide and stylish. Although the thermal insulation effect of a wool coat is not particularly good, it is very wind-resistant and is suitable for wearing with a thick cashmere sweater in northern cities.
Cashmere is the opposite of wool. Its fibers are very fine (13~25 microns) and hollow, so the garment is lightweight, portable and not stiff. The cashmere coat feels very delicate and skin-friendly, and has a strong luster, especially after it has been treated with water ripples. In rooms where the temperature is low and there is no wind, a cashmere coat is very good at keeping warm because it has strong temperature locking properties.
In addition, there are other options such as alpaca wool and camel wool. Alpaca fiber is unique, strong in toughness, has few impurities, is not easy to pill, and has better thermal insulation properties than wool, cashmere and mohair. Camel hair is light, soft and warm, and is very popular abroad.
When choosing coat fabrics, you can also consider mohair, which is Angora goat hair, which is characterized by thicker fibers, less curl, and good luster. Mohair fabric has a smooth feel and a lustrous surface, and has excellent resilience, wear resistance, and dust and stain resistance.
Finally, there is polyester fiber (polyester fabric), which has the advantages of good shape, wide plate shape, not easy to deform, and cheap price. But its disadvantages are that it pills easily, has poor warmth retention, is airtight, easily generates static electricity, is heavy to wear, and looks textureless.
To sum up, wool and cashmere coats are better choices. The specific choice of coat material depends on personal needs and preferences. If you need a coat with good wind resistance and thermal insulation, wool is a good choice; if you are looking for a coat that is light, delicate and has strong temperature-locking properties, cashmere may be a better choice.
